Jeffrey A. Pike’s educational background includes studies at the Polytechnic Institute of New York, New York University; and the University of Michigan. His professional credentials include the following: Senior Technical Specialist, Ford Motor Company (retired after 32 years); Adjunct Professor, Wayne State University, Biomedical Engineering Department; Fellow, SAE International; Principal Lecturer and Organizer, SAE seminars on automotive safety (22 years) and forensic biomechanics (4 years); and invited speaker at conferences in the United States (including two White House conferences), Europe, China, India, Korea, and Australia. Mr. Pike has served as a consultant to various agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Academy of Sciences, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and state and local governments. Mr. Pike’s publications include technical papers, book chapters, and two previous books (Automotive Safety and Neck Injury: The Use of X-Rays, CTs, and MRIs to Study Crash-Related Injury Mechanisms), both of which are used as graduate course texts. His additional teaching experience includes guest lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Medical College of Wisconsin, the University of Virginia, and Harvard Medical School. In 2006, Mr. Pike retired from Ford Motor Company and founded Biomechanics Consulting, Inc. (BCI), which specializes in forensic and research studies of injury mechanisms and countermeasures. In addition to his consulting practice, Mr. Pike continues to actively participate on various committees and to lecture in numerous venues, including professional seminars, university classes, and developing countries. As he has for the past several decades, Mr. Pike continues to help train and mentor the next generation of safety professionals.
