This interesting book focuses on the aircraft designs of the man often referred to as the father of Russian aviation, Andrei Nikolaevich Tupolev. Born in Russia in 1888, Tupolev went on to design aircraft that earned Russia worldwide acclaim for their pioneering contributions to aviation in the 1920s, '30s, and '40s. Tupolev - The Man and His Aircraft begins with a short biography of Tupolev, then quickly moves on to covering the historical and engineering details of his aircraft designs.

Paul Duffy

Paul Duffy has been an aviation writer since 1960, when he was 14. In the following decades he built up connections with airlines using Russian- built aircraft and in 1989 began working as an aviation correspondent in Moscow. He was one of the first Westerners allowed into production factories and to be able to fully understand the Soviet aviation system. He lives in Shannon in Ireland when not in Russia.

Andrei Kandalov

Andrei Kandalov began work with the Tupolev Design Bureau in 1941 as a trainee locksmith and after the war he qualified as an electrical design engineer. In 1973 he became first deputy to General Designer AA Tupolev, a position held until 1992. He now advises the current head of Tupolev and lives in Moscow.
