Fuel Cell Technology for Vehicles 2002-2004

Fuel cell technology continues to attract a great deal of interest as an alternative power source to the internal combustion engine. Substantial technical progress has been made and the appearance of the first vehicles offered in the commercial market mark a significant step. However, broad application and the eventual success of fuel cell technology in vehicles remain elusive.

    Richard K. Stobart

    Richard Stobart received his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He worked for Ricardo Consulting Engineers in test bed automation and gasoline engine development before moving to the consulting firm Arthur D Little as an automotive technology specialist. In 2001 he was offered the Chair in Automotive Engineering at the University of Sussex in the UK, and now heads up Automotive Systems research, an area of interest that includes both emerging powertrain systems and improved control methods for conventional engines. He also serves as a co-organizer of the Fuel Cell Technology Session at the SAE World Congress.
