    Chantal Parenteau

Chantal S. Parenteau is a Staff Biomechanical Engineer in the Engineering Department of Delphi Safety & Interior Systems, a division of Delphi Corp. Since Dr. Parenteau joined Delphi in 1998, she has lead and supported various advanced occupant protection systems projects. Parenteaus main focus is analyzing field data accidents and conducting biomechanical research that results in the selection of key occupant safety technologies. Dr. Parenteau has authored or collaborated on more than 25 scientific papers and nine technical presentations. Prior to joining Delphi, Parenteau worked for Failure Analysis Associates in Phoenix, working on modeling and testing. In 2000, she became the co-organizer for the Biomechanics Session at the SAE World Congress. Dr. Parenteau was the recipient of the SAE/lnterRegs Standard and Regulations Award for Young Engineers, the David Foust Memorial Fund, administered by AAAM and of the Swedish Road Authority Jubileums Fund, administered by the Swedish National Road Administration. Dr. Parenteau graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania where she also earned a Masters of Science in BioEngineering. Parenteau was also part of the Mathematics and Engineering Honor Societies. In 1996 she earned her doctoral degree from Chalmers University in Sweden.

    David C. Viano

Dr. Viano is a specialist in injury biomechanics and impact protection in automotive crashes, sport impacts, and defense/law-enforcement actions. He is Adjunct Professor of Traffic Medicine at Chalmers University of Technology and Biomedical Engineering at Wayne State University, where he serves as the Director of the Sport Biomechanics Laboratory. He has advised and graduated five doctoral students. He is a Fellow of SAE, ASME, AIMBE and AAAM, and serves on the Board of Directors of several scientific, medical and charitable organizations. Dr. Viano is Editor-in-Chief of Traffic Injury Prevention. He has published over 200 papers on injury biomechanics and impact protection; and he recently published the book, Role of the Seat in Rear Crash Safety with SAE. He has more than a dozen patents, most notably the first commercial active head restraint system to prevent whiplash and the high retention seat for rear impact safety. He is recently retired as Principal Scientist from General Motors Corporation, and now serves as a consultant to the National Football League in their efforts to understand and prevent concussion. He works through his company ProBiomechanics LLC. Dr. Viano served on the National Academy of Science committee that wrote Injury in America, and received the Award of Engineering Excellence from NHTSNDOT as well as numerous SAE awards. Dr. Viano received his PhD in Applied Mechanics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California and Dr. med. from the Karolinska Institute and Medical University, Stockholm, Sweden.
