Zora Arkus-Duntov

The Legend Behind Corvette

The name Zora Arkus-Duntov has long been inextricably linked with the Corvette in the minds of automotive historians and enthusiasts. But the story of Zora Arkus-Duntov runs far deeper than his twenty plus years of professional involvement as both Corvette's primary advocate within General Motors and as the fiberglass sports car's first chief engineer. Author Jerry Burton, founding editor and current editorial director of Corvette Quarterly, has written the only authorized biography of Zora Arkus-Duntov. In telling the complete story of this complex and fascinating man, Burton takes the reader from Zora's roots in revolutionary Russia to his relentless pursuit of the American dream amidst the backdrop of New York and Detroit during the height of America's lover affair with the automobile.

Jerry Burton

Jerry Burton has been close to the automotive scene all his life. He is well known in the Corvette world as the founding editor and current editorial director of Corvette Quarterly magazine. He also has written many performance-oriented ads for the Corvette and Chevrolet as a senior copy writer at the Campbell-Ewald advertising agency. It was in this capacity that he authored the Heartbeat of America themeline for Chevrolet in the mid 1980s. Jerry was also a member of the founding board of directors of the National Corvette Museum and is a former editor at Auto Week magazine in Detroit. These activities helped spawn his acquaintance and his later friendship with Zora Arkus-Duntov and his wife Elfi. As Jerry came to know Zora personally, his desire to paint an accurate picture of this fascinating and complex man developed into the ultimate biography of Zora Arkus-Duntov: the Legend Behind Corvette. Jerry Burton lives in Michigan with his wife Nancy and son Michael.
