Robert Metcalf

Robert Metcalf

Robert Metcalf is a racing engineer who consults with racers worldwide. He has worked with dozens of drivers, from beginners to some of the top professionals, and with many different types of cars, including Formula Cars, Production Cars, GT Cars, Stock Cars, Unlimited Pike’s Peak Cars, Can-Am Cars, Long Distance Prototypes, and virtually every other type of race car that runs on dirt or pavement and turns corners. His drivers have scored an impressive three National Championships and over a hundred race wins. One was even awarded SCCA’s Kimberly Cup for most improvement in a season. Metcalf is also a race car driver. He began racing Kai-ts in 1958, when both he and Karting were young. He raced Karts until he was old enough to drive Formula Fords in SCCA and continued through Formula 5000 and Sprint Cars. In 1980, he realized that he had become a better racing engineer than driver and hung up his helmet so he could concentrate on setting up cars for other drivers. He still retrieves his helmet from time to time for an occasional test or race. Metcalf makes his home in Dallas, Texas. He is a frequent contributor of technical articles to racing publications and has presented numerous seminars on vehicle dynamics. Outside of racing, his interests are sailing and blues guitar.
