![]() Paul Van ValkenburghFrom the First Edition: Paul Van Valkenburgh has been involved in motorsports since his high school days-first making engine swaps, then restorations-and he built the second deDion axle sports car in the United States. Van Valkenburgh's mechanical and aeronautical studies took him to Kansas University of Engineering, and then on to Douglas Space Systems before he went on to work at Chevrolet Research and Development as an aerodynamicist. While there, he became a specialist in competition vehicle dynamics and was promoted to research engineer. From there Paul went to Sports Car Graphic as a technical editor and developed one of the most complete and accurate road test programs. Update: Since publishing the first edition of this book, Paul has written four others, including the definitive Race Car Engineering & Mechanics and AUTO 2010-the Car Magazine from the Future, as well as over 300 magazine articles. He has also been an engineering consultant and lecturer on the dynamics of cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, snowmobiles, motorhomes, tour buses, 3-wheelers, bicycles, human-powered vehicles, electric cars, and race cars. Currently he is the editorial columnist in Racecar Engineering magazine, and occasional feature writer for Road & Track. He also earned an advanced degree in Human Behavior, and is beginning a second career in neurological disorders. For more information, see www.wryt.com. SAE books by Paul Van Valkenburgh
